Radio Warrington Help
Your technical questions answered
I have tried to listen to Radio Warrington by clicking on Listen Live but it will not work. (It just goes to itunes or another player)
An incompatible program is probably set as your default player to grab any audio files. You will need to create a little Icon on your desktop and then get that Icon to play ONLY with Windows Media Player or Winamp. Here's how to do it ;
- On the Radio Warrington website, right click on the Listen Live button of your choice (ie windows Media Player) > save target as > and then Save on your desktop. This will create a little shortcut icon on your desktop.
- Right click on that icon > open with > and select Windows Media Player.
You can also check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
This should sort out the problem. Every time you click that desktop icon it will be forced to open up with Windows Media Player or Winamp.
You could try downloading WINAMP which is a free music player available from www.winamp.com and repeat the previous instructions.
It might be that your computer is set with an internet Firewall which is set to block mp3 streams.
If you still can't get Radio Warrington to play on your computer, get in touch via our contact page and we will get you going, even if we need to pop round to sort it.
Can I create a desktop icon so I just click on it everytime I want to hear Radio Warrington?
Yes, just carry out the instructions for the previous question
My desktop shortcut icon no longer works
From time to time Radio Warrington's IP address gets changed. This will only affect listeners who have created desktop icons as described in the previous question. To rectify this, delete the icon and then re-create a new one as described in the previous question.
How can I listen to Radio Warrington on my radio?
In the future we hope to be allowed to broadcast on FM. Until then we can only be received via the internet on www.radiowarrington.co.uk. However, a little battery operated FM transmitter is available from various places including ourselves, which plugs into the headphone or loudspeaker socket on your computer. It transmits a very low power FM signal that can be received on any radio in the home or workplace. We sell them for £4.99 (See FM Sender in the Technical Help section)
Would I have to unplug my computer loudspeakers to plug in the FM sender?
If you only have one audio output socket then you would need a little mini-jack splitter which we can supply or they available from electrical shops such as Maplin.
Do I need a power supply for my FM sender?
They run on 2 x AAA batteries but you would need to remember to switch it off after use. If you get a 12v power supply unit then you would not need to replace the batteries. We can supply them or they are available from electrical shops such as Maplin.
I have set my FM sender and my FM radio to a frequency but it is not very clear
Try tuning your radio a little to the side of the labeled frequency to improve reception. Some radios work better than others with the FM Senders
I have lost my sound from Radio Warrington
As anyone who uses computers will know, computer components can be very temperamental. If your stream from Radio Warrington fails there are many different reasons and actions that you can take. It is usually a buffering issue. Firstly, try re-establishing your link with your preferred player. Failing that, restart your computer, router and modem. Interruptions can be caused by running other programs on your computer at the same time. Internet links can also suffer at busy times of the day. Occasionally there can be a break in the internet at our end or the server which we use to distribute our signal stream over the internet. This usually only lasts a few minutes but is beyond our control.
